The Geronimo Springs Museum’s Homestead Room

The museum’s Homestead Room features items dating back to the 1800s, including fashionable women’s clothing, items used for homemaking, a small school desk, photographs of early families, and several personal possessions of Sadie Orchard.

Several years ago Crystal Kleinknight presented the museum with a Double Barrel Muzzle Loader Shotgun with the following description: “The powder used in the gun was kept in a horn. To fire the gun, powder was first poured into the barrel. A wad of cloth or sometimes cardboard was pushed in with the attached wooden rod. Next shot (round metal balls of the right size) were dropped down each barrel. When ready to fire, the hammer was cocked and the trigger pulled and hopefully the target was hit.”
